Rebecca "Claire" Teensma
Head Instructor/NCPT
Claire is a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher and a Movement Specialist for Older Adults. She is also trained in Pre- & Post-Natal Pilates, Post-Rehab Pilates, Pilates for Neurological Conditions, and the Garuda Method in the UK.
Claire’s road to Pilates was unconventional. As she would say, this is Act Three of her life story. She was born in the Philippines to a family of mathematicians and scientists. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design and Habitat Development and was a board-certified interior designer in the Philippines.
Claire moved to the United States in 1995, settling in the Los Angeles, California. There, she started her family and her climb up the corporate ladder from an administrative assistant to a project manager at the electric utility company, Southern California Edison. During this time, she went through work-related injuries that battered her body slowly. Gradually, she started developing osteopenia, arthritis, and other age-related illnesses and work-related injuries. Upon retirement in 2016, Claire was determined to adapt to a healthier lifestyle after seeing many friends either get sick or even pass away shortly after retirement.
Claire completed the 500 hours of Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training in 2017. In December 2017, she became a National Certified Pilates Teacher and started teaching in various Pilates studios in Los Angeles. In 2020, she completed her Advanced Certificate in Pilates for Older Adults through Body Harmonics of Canada. In 2022, she was certified in the Garuda Method Mat and Reformer.
Claire’s preparation for both private sessions and group classes is methodical. Her repertoire is thematic and addresses anomalies in the body common in this digital age. Her goal is for every client to feel and see noticeable improvements in their posture, balance, stability, and flexibility in their own path to wellness.
